Introduction to mobile robotics in ROS

The DISRUPTIVE project, as part of its training activities, is organising the course: "Introduction to mobile robotics in ROS". This course will introduce concepts about the Robot Operating System (ROS) and its application in the development of simulations oriented to mobile robotics.

The registration period will be open from 03 to 17 May 2021 and will be done through the following form: https://forms.gle/y6bNJeEhmTcRtst66

The course has a duration of 8 hours divided into two online units of four hours each, the first one will be held on 20 May 2021 at 9 AM WET [Lisbon-PT] where there will be an introduction to the basic concepts of ROS and mobile robotics, the second one on 21 May 2021 at 9 AM WET [Lisbon-PT]) where practical examples of mobile robotics will be developed through a simulation environment.

The videoconference will be held via Zoom Meeting. Instructors include IPB researchers Luis Piardi, Alexandre Júnior, Heitor Assumpção and Paulo Leitão.

Training programme:

     20/05/2021

- Fundamentals of Robotics and Introduction to ROS: Concept of mobile robotics, different kinds of mobile robots and their applications, conceptualisation and structure of ROS and simulators for mobile robotics in ROS.

- Installation of ROS Kinetic Kame on a virtual machine.

     21/05/2021

- Practical work in simulation aimed at mobile robotics: concepts of control of a mobile robot in a simulation environment through the concepts of worked ROS and Python language.

Further details will be sent by email after the registration period.
